Game Overview
War of Nations is a 4x Multiplayer Strategy game which was acquired by Popreach in order to manage the live operations and the release of new mechanics and features to keep the player base engaged and retained within the game.
My Role
I was the lead designer on the game during my tenure at Popreach (2018-2020). I supervised the release of several key updates and features to improve player engagement and retention.
Key Achievements
- New FTUE (First Time User Experience):
- Redesigned the original FTUE which had not been changed since 2015.
- Simplified hardcore combat mechanics for better player understanding.
- Added new situational FTUE triggers throughout the game.
- Result: Improved D1 retention by over 9%, from below 25% to over 34%.
- New Features based on Existing Content:
- Created new content using existing features and combat mechanics.
- Balanced new content within the game ecosystem.
- Result: Increased revenue and Daily Active Users (DAU).
- Classic Server:
- Launched a new server type combining older mechanics with newer releases.
- Targeted at legacy players, approximately 5 years after initial game release.
- Result: Increased engagement, with many older players reinstalling and creating new profiles.
- Periodic Release of New Content:
- Supervised the regular release of new, balanced content.
- Ensured new releases were engaging for players.
